Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Our Hospice Care

Yes. Americare Hospice offers 24/7 support to ensure patients and families always have access to care. While in-person visits are scheduled, our team is available by phone anytime, day or night, to provide guidance, send a nurse if needed, or assist during urgent situations. We’re here when you need us most.

Yes. Hospice care is typically covered 100% by Medicare, Medicaid, and most Medicare Advantage plans. This includes physician services, nursing care, medications related to the terminal diagnosis, medical equipment, and other necessary support. Our team will help verify benefits and handle the paperwork so families can focus on their loved ones.

Absolutely. Patients with Alzheimer’s or other forms of advanced dementia are eligible for hospice when they meet certain criteria, such as significant functional decline. Americare’s team is experienced in supporting cognitive decline and ensures a safe, soothing, and respectful environment for both patients and caregivers.

Yes. Americare Hospice arranges for all necessary durable medical equipment, including hospital beds, oxygen, wheelchairs, walkers, and more, delivered directly to the patient’s home or care setting. These items are provided at no additional cost when related to the patient’s hospice care needs.

To begin hospice care, a physician must determine that the patient has a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of six months or less if the disease runs its expected course. Simply contact Americare, and we’ll work with the doctor, the patient, and family to assess eligibility and start services promptly and smoothly.

Visit frequency depends on the patient’s condition and needs. Typically, nurses visit one to several times a week, with adjustments made as health status changes. In addition, we’re available 24/7 to respond to emergencies or provide extra support when needed, ensuring families never feel alone or unsupported.

Not necessarily. Patients can continue medications that provide comfort or manage symptoms. However, treatments aimed at curing the terminal illness are usually discontinued. Our care team will carefully review each case and work with the patient’s physician to adjust medications appropriately, always prioritizing comfort and quality of life.

To qualify for hospice care, two conditions must be met: First, a physician must certify that the patient has a terminal illness with a life expectancy of six months or less; and second, the patient (or their healthcare proxy) must choose comfort-focused care over curative treatment. Feel free to contact us at any time for more information about our hospice care and palliative services.
